Not playing favorites…

I know I said that I liked the green ones best. But the pink and whites caught my attention today. Maybe I'm fickle. Or maybe it is because it is Tuesday. Or maybe I just like all the dogwoods and there are so many in bloom of all kinds that it is overwhelming my senses with beauty.

A little later than usual…

There were so many choices this morning. Dogwood. Late cherry. Redbud. Irises, daffodils and tulips. Birds. But then, there was this. In this pandemic April, as the anxiety and fear that drove my early walks last year subsides just a little, I'm walking a little later so the sun is usually on its merry way. But this morning, there was this. For which I am more than grateful.

Hate has no home here…

And a happy Monday to all. I took a long walk in the morning beauty this morning but unlike many mornings I had an itinerary in mind. I wanted to see firsthand the response of the people of St. Marks Capitol Hill to an act of hatred in this peaceful courtyard (a noose was hung from one of the trees recently, apparently a far too often act in DC). The signs are a witness to love in the face of hate. I know, for many, this is a small action, but if you walk the perimeter ( as I did in the video) and this act of saying no to…

The green season is upon us…

Yes. Here we are. It's Friday on Capitol Hill. And raining. And apparently it is also National Arbor Day. Funny, because as I was walking, I was thinking how we are moving into "the green season." Most of the flowering trees have given up their pinks and whites and reds and traded them for fresh bright green leaves. The changes get harder to see now, no more flashy bursts of color that your eye cannot escape. Now you really have to pay attention...everything is more subtle. So I ask, what draws your attention deeper today? Personally, I'm going to have to think about that... and I will just have to…

March 30, 2020: I Learned it All in the Garden

A lot of advanced geometry going on this morning on the walk...maintaining compassionate spacing in a neighborhood with 19th century sidewalks is becoming a challenge. But then there was this...in my own garden...the tulips bulb planted far too late in a winter that just wouldn't be winter growing happily next to the white flowers that just never stopped growing because of that winter. Oh yes and a cameo by the replanted grocery store hyacinth bulbs. Just proves the world is full of all kinds of beauty from all kinds of places that reacts in all kinds of ways to change.

March 24 – 27, 2020: Seeing with no words

I haven't had anything to say for a few days, but that doesn't mean that my eyes aren't wide open. I just can't translated what I see into any kind of verbal expression. I am lucky in that our confinement begins in the middle of the blooming season in the neighborhood. So much beauty to be seen. And so, instead of words, I share all that I have seen as I venture not to far from my home f you want to take a look, too. March 24, 2020 March 25, 2020 March 27, 2020 March 26, 2020
