Summer time…

Well, this morning feels like summer. Not in that yucky swampy way of a DC summer, but in the more livable cool breeze after a thunderstorm but yea it is hot kind of a way. The birds were pretty happy, especially this guy who posed quite awhile for me while I captured the moment. Hope the weather is kind wherever you are.

Honoring beauty in a season of change…

Unlike most days, today my wandering had a destination. Since the weather predicts heavy wind today, the tulips on my walk will take a beating, I'm sure, and I just hadn't paused to honor their beauty. We don't have many houses here on the Hill that have space to do justice to tulip growing, but this one does. It seems to me that the tulips are the one flower that has held steady to their bloom cycle this year, so many other things have been early that it seems all the beauty is rushing in at once. Other things are changing too...there are people walking to a destination rather than…

Unexpected roses…

We've had a wet month here in the mid-Atlantic region -- and today, in true form, it is almost 90 degrees.  So much for spring.  The lack of any kind of semi-normal seasonal transition time has made getting the garden cleaned and ready for summer quite a challenge.  There have been a number of days when I have weeded in a downpour and raced to pick up necessities at the garden store in between heavy showers. Hence, there has been little time to reflect and there has been no "this is spring, here is my garden metaphor of the year" post.  Today, however, is your lucky day (or not, depending…

Star light, star bright…

I'll admit it.  I just returned from a much-needed-but-all-too-short-vacation in Mexico.  My biggest decisions during those few blissful days were "what book to read next" and "what restaurant do we choose tonight".  The weather was beautiful, etc., etc. and so forth. Now, I would not describe myself as a science nerd or even someone who pays much attention to the science news.  And, since the end of my days as a new-age-spirituality-guru, I haven't continued to cast charts (yes, that is correct, I did for a while cast horoscope charts...I'm kind of a hands-on type when it comes to any spiritual exploration), so I really haven't kept up with the…

Lucky girl…

As if there is anyone out there who does not know this, I'm going to tell you that we had an earthquake here in the District of Columbia on Tuesday, August 23.  And, as I sit here writing this, we are awaiting the arrival of a hurrican named Irene (although if weather forecasting has any veracity at all, those of us here in the city will only see Irene as a tropical storm). Mostly, I'm writing about this for myself, since it is hardly news.  But I want to remember the events of this week far into the future. I suppose that there are many in this country who think…
